Chanel Couture SS21
“I love big family reunions, when the generations all come together,” Creative Director Virgine Viard explained when asked about the collection. “There’s this spirit at Chanel today. Because Chanel is also like a family.” In line with this statement, Viard’s collection is an ode to family (and all those gatherings we are craving to attend in our post-pandemic fantasies). The collection is vibrant with a youthful and energetic twist as metallic embellishments and a surprise horse appearance came together to create an unforgettable show.
The 32-look range has imaginatively constructed the ambience of a bohemian wedding, with the models adorned in ethereal layers of satin crêpe and glittering sequins. Paying homage to the older generations of Chanel designers who have come before her, Chanel’s signature tweed suit arrived in a new and fresh way in the form of light spring vests paired with excellently tailored wide-legged trousers as well as the classic jacket and skirt sets. The collection was a perfect mash-up of new and old, as vibrant oranges and pinks were collocated with the houses classic pastels and dustings of black.
"I knew we couldn't organise a big show, that we would have to invent something else, so I came up with the idea of a small cortège that would come down the stairs of the Grand Palais and pass beneath arches of flowers - like a family celebration, a wedding” - Virgine Viard
